Pay school fees with your child's student number
When you need this
You are paying school fees at the bank, in internet or mobile banking, or with EcoCash. Putting your child's student number in the payment's reference is how the school knows which child the money is for. Without it, the school has to work it out by hand, and your child may not be credited on time.
You need your child's student number. See Your child's student number.
Steps
- Check which account to pay into. The school's letter tells you. Pay only into that account.
- Pay one child at a time. If you are paying for two children, make two payments, one with each child's number.
- Write the student number in the reference. Every bank and wallet asks for it in its own words: the reference, the account number, the narration or a description. Use the field your bank or wallet asks for.
- At the bank counter: write the number on the deposit slip where it asks for the reference, or tell the teller it is the reference.
- In internet or mobile banking: type the number in the reference field.
- With EcoCash: type the number when you are asked for the account or reference.
- Type the number with or without dashes.
101-26-1234-5,101 26 1234 5and1012612345all work. Type all ten digits, including the last one. - Leave a space between the number and any words. For example
1012612345 FEESworks, butFEES1012612345may not be read as a student number. - Keep your proof of payment: the deposit slip, the bank's confirmation or the EcoCash message. It has the date, the amount and the bank's own reference.
What you should see
- The school sees your payment when the bank reports it to them, usually within a day or two.
- The school then credits the payment to your child's fees account.
- The school can send you a receipt. If you need one, ask the school office.
If something goes wrong
You forgot to put the number in, or you wrote the wrong number: don't pay again. Contact the school office and give them:
- the date you paid,
- the amount,
- the bank's or EcoCash reference from your proof of payment,
- your child's name and student number.
The school will find the payment and credit the right child.
You paid for two children in one payment: the school sees this and splits it between them. It can take longer. Next time, make one payment per child.
The bank or app says the number is not valid: check it against the school's slip. One digit is probably typed wrong. Don't pay until it is accepted, or ask the school office.
A few working days have passed and the payment is not on your child's account: contact the school office with your proof of payment. Don't pay again.
